Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has compared Egyptian striker Amr Zaki to former England great Alan Shearer. Zaki has heavily impressed since joining Wigan on a season-long loan from Zamalek in the close season. He netted four goals in as many Premiership games and scored in Wigan's 4-0 drubbing of fourth division side Notts County in the Carling Cup. Zaki's superb start to life in English football earned him plaudits, with Whelan being the latest one to heap praise on the combative frontman. Whelan thinks that the 25-year-old's predator instinct in front of goal is comparable to that of former Newcastle captain Shearer. "Zaki has been sensational already," Whelan was quoted as saying by Manchester Evening News. "He does remind me of Shearer. He's a natural striker too who is so hungry and so determined.
"Strikers like that have an instinct as to where the goal is. You can't describe it, you can't give it to anybody. "Certain people have it and Alan Shearer was one who had it in abundance, and this lad is exactly the same." Determination Zaki, who is renowned for having a never-say-die attitude whenever he steps onto the pitch, is determined to maintain his fine form. "I'm a person who never gives up. I'm like a bouncing ball. I keep coming back and I keep looking to score." "The best way for me to help Wigan is to score. That's what I'm paid to do and that's what I want to keep doing today, tomorrow and for the rest of the season." Zaki is currently the Premiership's joint top scorer, along with Portsmouth striker Jermain Defoe.
