Stuttgart missed the chance to close the gap on Bundesliga leaders Schalke 04 to as they slumped to a 3-1 home defeat to Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday. Bayern Munich revived their title hopes following a 3-2 away victory over Hertha Berlin. Two strikes within one minute on the half-hour mark from Bosnian winger Hasan Salihamidzic and Lukas Podolski earned Bayern Munich a 2-0 first-half lead. Argentinean striker Christian Gimenez pulled one back for the hosts in the 59th minute but Dutchman Roy Makaay ensured the Bavarians' superiority with the third goal nine minutes later. Dick van Burik scored a late consolation for Hertha eight minutes from time. Despite suffering their second consecutive defeat against Hamburg earlier on Friday, Schalke stay on top of the table with 49 points, three ahead of Werder Bremen who jumped a point above third-placed Stuttgart.
