Ronaldinho scored twice to lead Barcelona to a crushing 4-0 home victory over helpless Villarreal in the Primera Liga on Saturday. The Brazilian superstar put the Spanish giants ahead in the first half from the penalty spot before wrapping up the victory with a stunning acrobatic play in the dying seconds. Eidur Gudjohnsen and Andres Iniesta also scored to complete the rout and maintained Barca's position at the top of the table. The title holders now have 29 points, four ahead of second-placed Sevilla who will play Athletic Bilbao on Sunday. Villarreal are left in ninth spot with 18 points. Barcelona's first threat came after nine minutes when Ronaldinho raced down the left flank and cut back to Deco, whose shot was blocked by Villarreal keeper Mariano Barbosa. The Catalans were awarded a penalty in the 34th minute after Gudjohnsen collected Ronaldinho's through pass and span around his marker Pascal Cygan, who pulled the Icelandic forward's arm.
Ronnie stepped-up and fired the ball into the bottom corner of the net to give Barca a deserved lead. Four minutes later, Ludovic Giuly sent a pinpoint cross to Ronaldinho and the FIFA Footballer of the Year controlled it before firing a right-footed shot that was saved by Barbosa. It was no different in the second half as Barcelona continued their domination while Villarreal couldn't push forward to level the score. Gudjohnsen widened the gap in the 54th minute when he connected with Iniesta's cross at the far post to head home from close range. In-form Iniesta, who scored in the midweek UEFA Champions League match against Levski Sofia, added the third nine minutes past the hour mark after receiving Gianluca Zambrotta's cross with a brilliant volley into the back of the net. Ronaldinho put the icing on the cake in the stoppage time after taking full advantage of Xavi's inch-perfect cross, chesting down before volleying spectacular bicycle-kick into the back of the net.
