Ahmed Hossam 'Mido' dished out praise for Tottenham mate and compatriot Hossam Ghaly, stating that his versatility can be a great help to any team. "I am not saying this because he is my friend, but Ghaly can play anywhere on the pitch except goalkeeper," the international striker was quoted as saying by Sky Sports on Wednesday. "In the national team, he has played in central defense, at right back, centre midfield, out wide, or as a striker." Ghaly missed Tottenham's first three Premiership matches before making his debut in Spurs' 1-0 defeat to Manchester United.
The former Feyenoord man then excelled in the UEFA Cup when he made an assist to help Tottenham grab a 1-0 home victory over Slavia Prague and book a place in the group stage. Mido, 23, revealed that he told Ghaly to be sure his quality will convince Dutch coach Martin Jol to include him in his plans. "When he wasn't playing I always spoke to him and said he had to be patient and wait for the chance to show his quality - because he has it. The problems only come if you don't have the quality," Mido said. "If you have it you will get your chance. If you look at a player like Danny Murphy, for example, he didn't play a lot last season but he is playing now because he has the quality and has done very well in the last four games," he added. Ghaly's displays with Tottenham earned him a call up for the national team for the first time since December when he started in a goalless draw with Botswana in the African Cup qualifiers.
