The entire Juventus board of directors has resigned following a refereeing scandal, the Italian champions announced on Thursday. "The Juventus Board of Directors has handed its resignation to the shareholders and called a meeting for June 29, 2006," read a statement by Juventus' official website. Italian newspapers presented alleged telephone conversations between Juve general director Luciano Moggi and Italian Football Federation (FIGC) official Pierluigi Pairetto, who is responsible for appointing referees. The allegations have prompted wide criticism that resulted in FIGC president Franco Carraro's resignation before the Bianconeri board, including famous trio of Moggi, Managing director Antonio Giraudo and President Roberto Bettega, made the same action. Moggi is currently under investigation in Rome and Naples for trying to influence the appointment of referees while the FIGC has launched its own inquiry. The Turin side need only one point against Reggina on Sunday to retain their Serie A title.
