Italy and Roma skipper Francesco Totti said he will retire from international football after the World Cup finals in Germany this summer, Football Italia magazine reported on Monday. "I really want to be a part of the World Cup because it will be my last competition with the national shirt," Totti said. "That is the project which is in my end and I am almost certain that I will see it through until the very end," he added. The 29-year-old playmaker will be sidelined for up to three months after breaking his ankle in a league clash on Sunday, the injury which raised doubts over his participation in the World Cup. Totti is hoping to make up for his previous disappointment in the major tournaments with Italy when the World Cup kicks-off in June. "The last World Cup and European Championship didn't go as I had planned, but I will be in Germany and I'll make up for them," he said. The controversial player was sent-off in the 2002 World Cup round of 16 defeat to South Korea and was suspended for three matches in Euro 2004 after spitting on Denmark's Christian Poulsen. Totti is Roma's top scorer this season, netting 15 goals to lead his club to fourth place in the Serie A table.
