Spanish champions Barcelona have confirmed their interest in signing Arsenal captain Thierry Henry, The Sun newspaper reported on Tuesday. Barcelona president Joan Laporta said his club will attempt a move for the France international. “We will do all we can to sign Thierry Henry,” said Laporta. The 28-year-old striker, whose contract with Arsenal expires in the summer of 2007, refused to discuss an extension with the Gunners before the end of the season. It is the first time that a Nou Camp official has publicly declared their interest in the former Juventus hit-man. Recent reports have suggested Barcelona would raid the Premiership during the winter transfer window, with Henry and Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard as their prime targets. Barcelona sports director Txiki Beguiristain was quick to denounce these rumors. "We are happy, we have good players and they are showing we don't need to bring new players,” he told Sky Sports news last week. "We are not trying to do anything now, now is not the moment.” Beguiristain's comments leave the door for speculation open over the possibility of approaching the two Premiership stars during the summer. World and European Player of the Year Ronaldinho had publicly welcomed the prospect of Henry and Lampard joining Barcelona. "Everybody in Barcelona is talking about Thierry and Frank joining us,” he said. "I would not be unhappy at all if those two players signed for Barcelona."
