Chelsea received a major blow to their English Premier League title hopes after losing 2-1 at home to rock bottom Sunderland. With Egypt forward Mohamed Salah in the starting line-up, Chelsea took the lead through Samuel Eto'o after 12 minutes. But Connor Wickham replied five minutes later as the Blues struggled for long spells to restore their lead, before Salah made way for Andre Schurrle on 66 minutes. Eight minutes from time, Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta conceded a silly penalty to allow Fabio Borini to snatch full points for last-placed Sunderland. The defeat ends a run of 77 unbeaten matches for Jose Mourinho as Chelsea boss at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea now trail leaders Liverpool by two points as the latter face struggling Norwich away on Sunday. The two clubs clash in a decisive match next week.
