Former Egypt assistant manager Shawki Gharib is set to be named Pharaohs' coach, according to EFA spokesman Azmi Megahed. "The EFA board has agreed to appoint Shawki Gharib as Egypt coach," Megahed told FilGoal.com. Gharib, currently Ismaili manager, was manager Hassan Shehata's assistant during the Pharaohs' glorious era from 2005 till 2011. The former Ghazl Mahalla midfielder had impressively lead the Egypt U-21 side to the FIFA World Youth Championship third place in 2001. Should he take the helm as Egypt boss, he will have to step down as manager of Ismaili only one month after taking charge. The ex-Egypt international led the Dervishes in three cup matches, winning two before being surprisingly eliminated from the semis at the hands of Wadi Degla.
