The Public Prosecutor's office said Wednesday it launched an official probe into a news report claiming that a senior Housing Ministry executive (s) had received kickbacks totalling up to 15 million euros from a German company to implement a five-year project here, Al-Masry el-Youm independent newspaper said. A probe, led by Chief Prosecutor Abdul Meguid Mahmoud, was demanded by Cairo-based lawyer Samir Sabri, who alleged that the executive (s) had purportedly won 15 million euros in bribes from the company, whose name would not be revealed for legal reasons, to speed up paper work, by which it could launch a mega housing project here, the paper said. It said that Mahmoud would send a legal team to Germany to collect information and documents from the company officials about the case.
