CAIRO - Turkish and Egypt Airlines, already Star Alliance partners, took one more step expanding their partnership to include the Egyptian coastal city of Alexandria in their flight range. Turkish Airlines CEO Temel Kotil arrived Alexandria on a THY (Turkish Airlines) Airbus, accompanied by more than 90 executives and businessmen to launch the IstanbulAlexandria Trade Bridge on a two day visit. The first flight of Turkish Airlines to Alexandria marked the beginning of the implementation of a recent agreement between Egypt and Turkish Airlines to expand the flight frequency and destinations of their Star Alliance partnership. Earlier this year Turkish and Egyptian Civil Aviation authorities have agreed to significantly increase the numbers and destinations of their flights mutually. Alexandria Governor Adel Lebib, EgyptAir CEO Hussein Massoud and Chairman of Alexandria Chamber of Commerce Ahmed el Wakil met Turkish Airlines and trade delegation at Burg-el Arab Airport near Alexandria. Turkish Ambassador Huseyin Avni Botsalı and Turkish Consul General in Alexandria Izzettin Güçyener were also at the receiving end.Turkish and Egyptian Airlines concluded a code-sharing agreement to launch, initially, four weekly flights between Alexandria and Istanbul. Egyptian and international passengers flying out of Alexandria will gain easy access to more than 120 international destinations via Istanbul. The parties also agreed to work to further expand their flights both in numbers and destinations. Alexandria and Istanbul Chambers of Commerce also availed themselves of the visit of Turkish business executkives to ink a protocol of understanding in order to create a permanent trade bridge between the two cities.
