With all the scientific and cultural advancement in the world today, still we find ourselves unable to answer many questions about the universe we live in. It is still also difficult for us to define the relation between this universe and us. Some of those questions and wondering about the relations between humankind and the universe were the inspirations for the new exhibition by Italian artist Clodoveo Masciarelli, who is exhibiting in Egypt for the first time with the Exhibition ‘Between the Sky and the Earth'. Masciarelli is the son of a known sculptor and has a degree in medicine. Since a young age he became passionate about art, learning from his father, but at the same time he cultivated another passion towards studying universe, observing the stars and learning about astronomy. Such a mix of experiences was the inspiration and stuff of his artworks. In his exhibition Masciarelli uses for his creations a variety of materials, from copper and iron to steel and marble, making a spatial exploration of the tension resolved between sky and earth, through abstract and geometrical figures that take shape into sculpture, jewellery and graphic designs "For me the man is in a position lying between the non-finite universe and the non-finite smallest particle, said Masciarelli who in his works symbolises worlds with circles, every circle for him is a world and those small circles can combine together to represent the non-finite universe. Touring the exhibition should take you to the same area of questions Masciarelli wanted to answer. You will also find yourself taken with the use of colours and the quality of sculpture he made using different materials ranging from thin metals to solid stones. You are exposed to the different worlds of the light of the stars and the shapes of the galaxy. Some of the works go to explain the possibility of how the universe began or how it may end. One section of the exhibition is dedicated to jewellery and introduces unique designs for jewellery, which seems to alternate coming from our world with being other worldly or even emanating from an ancient civilisation. Masciarelli has participated in several national and international exhibitions including: Palazzo delle Esposizioni (Rome), Marburg University Museum (Germany), Festival dei Due Mondi Spoleto, Italian Cultural Institute in Budapest, Modem of Debrecen (Hungary), Italian Cultural Institute in Vienna, Collegio Raffeallo Urbino, Scuderie Estensi Tivoli (Rome). The exhibition is being shown in Cairo at the Gezira Art Centre, Zamalek, until November 26. It is open to the public from Saturday to Thursday from 10 am to 2 pm and from 5 pm to 9 pm.
