CAIRO - Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, the head of the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), said Friday that he will appear at Saturday's trial of ousted president Hosni Mubarak. "I have decided to testify at the court session to stress the rule of the law in Egypt after the January 25 Revolution," Field Marshal Tantawi said, according to the official Middle East News Agency. However, he will testify behind closed doors on Saturday, under a complete news blackout. His testimony could be crucial in deciding if Mubarak is guilty or innocent of charges that include conspiring to kill protesters and inciting some officers to use live ammunition during a mass uprising. Tantawi served for 20 years as Mubarak's defence minister before becoming head of the ruling military council on Feb. 11 when the former president was ousted from office.
