CAIRO - An mini- bus collided head-on with a parked on a highway northwest of Cairo on Friday night, killing 11 people, including the driver, and injuring three passengers, police sources said on Saturday. They said the crash occurred on a road linking the capital to the 6th of October City late Friday. Reckless driving, lax traffic rules and poor road conditions cause many road crashes in Egypt. "The mini- bus crashed into a parked truck on the 6th of October Road killing 11 people and injuring three persons," the sources said. The bus was carrying 14 passengers when it collided with a truck loaded with wheat at a highway intersection near the 6th of October City, they said. The sources said 11 bodies had been sent to the central morgue in Cairo earlier in the day. Three people had survived with injuries. Many of the dead were from an extended family who had been traveling back to Cairo after spending some relatives in the 6th of October City, the sources said, adding that the truck driver ran away, fearing violence from family members of the dead. The police have launched a large scale search for him. A series of fatal transport accidents in recent weeks triggered a public outcry over the government's handling of transport safety. Many of those accidents have occurred on public holidays, when Egypt's transport system becomes overloaded.
