CAIRO - Although Egypt's consumer confidence index (CCI), which measures the people's confidence in the Government's economic policies, rose by two per cent in April, the country's living standard index fell by 3.1 per cent, the Cabinet's Information and Decision-Making Support Centre (IDSC) has said. The general consumer index posted an overall decline by 0.7 per cent in April, against the previous month, the IDSC said in its monthly report. The nationwide family income index added 4.1 per cent. The Upper Egyptian governorate of Qena posted the highest on the index, jumping by 19.8 per cent, the report said. The index measures the degree of optimism on the state of the economy that affects consumers in their saving and spending decisions. The index is calculated monthly on the basis of a household survey of consumers' opinions on current conditions and future expectations of the economy.
