CAIRO- Dozens of young Egyptians Friday staged a protest on Friday to condemn police torture on the 58th anniversary of the Egyptian Revolution. During the protest in central Cairo, the protesters, mostly from the opposition 6th of April movement, chanted slogans in rememberance of Khaled Saeed, a blogger who died last month allegedly due to torture by two policemen in the Egyptian coastal city of Alexandria. The protesers, who managed to bypass security measures enforced by police in central Cairo, marched on to the Press Syndicate while chanting anti-Government slogans. Earlier this month, Egypt's Chief Prosecutor referred to trial two detectives officerswho had allegedly beaten Saeed and illegally arresting him. However, they are not charged with his death, which was blamed on his swallowing a packet of drugs. Their trial will open on Tuesday. Human rights groups organised a number of demonstrations in both Cairo and Alexandria to protest alleged police brutality. Graphic photos of Saeed, showing his bruised and battered body, have been posted on many Egyptian websites.
