Egypt promotes Sharm at ITB
Published in The Egyptian Gazette on 07 - 03 - 2018

BERLIN, March 7, 2018 - THE Governor of Egypt's Southern Sinai, Khaled Fouda, said on Wednesday that the Cairo government had made great efforts in promoting Sharm El Sheikh city to be a modern venue for hosting international conferences and events .
Fouda made these remarks on the sidelines of the International Tourism Stock Exchange of Berlin (ITB), which started earlier in the day.
Governor Fouda said that Egypt's participation at this important event would promote Sharm as a tourism hub at international markets.
He added that he was participating at the ITB to promote Sharm el-Sheikh as an international conference venue among tourism agents.
Governor Fouda said that the Red Sea city enjoyed a distinguished location, stunning natural views, nice weather and beautiful shores and desert that made it a favorite destination for tourists and international conference organizers.
He said that a large number of German tourists visited South Sinai governorate in 2017.
"About 1.2 million Germans visited Sharm last year alone," he said, adding that the city receives eight weekly flights from Germany.
However, he said, this number of flight was not sufficient.
The governor revealed that there is new conference hall will be established in Sharm that could accommodate up to 4,000 persons.
It will be opened in August, he said.
Fouda added that the works of expanding the Sharm El Sheikh Airport would also be completed within a period of six months.
In a related development, Egypt's Tourism Minister Rana Mashat and Minister of Civil Aviation
Sherif Fathy have opened the Egyptian pavilion at the ITB with the particpation of representatives from 100 Egyptian companies and hotels.
A number of meetings between representative of Egyptian travel agencies and their German peers was being held on the sidelines of ITB for reaching deals on increasing the number of German tourists to Egypt during the present and forthcoming seasons.
