Published in Daily News Egypt on 19 - 01 - 2023

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly witnessed Wednesday the signing ceremony of two contracts between the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) and the Belgian Elia Grid International, in the presence of Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker.
The first contract that aims to conduct a study of the unified national grid was signed by Sabah Mohamed Meshaly, the Chairperson and Managing Director of EETC, and Frederic Van Cauteren, Commercial Director of Elia Grid.
After the signing ceremony, the Minister of Electricity said that the scope of the advisory study, according to this contract, extends for a period of nine months, and includes a review of the dynamic model of the unified electrical network, with the huge expansions that took place in the network during the past eight years. It also includes the preparation for future electrical interconnection projects with neighboring countries and the European continent, in addition to preparing the necessary scenarios to deal with any emergency circumstances.
The second contract involves providing advisory services related to studying the needs of the unified network to accommodate renewable energies for green hydrogen projects.
The Minister of Electricity stated that signing the consultancy services contract for studying the requirements for strengthening the network aims to tackle the expected huge increase in the production of energies from renewable sources, according to the vision and strategy of the Egyptian state regarding preserving the climate, and increasing reliance on new and renewable energies. This is targeted to reach about 42% by 2035. This also comes in line with the MoU and framework memorandums signed with 23 local and global alliances in this field.
