Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population announced the launch of the Knock on Doors campaign to provide family and reproductive health services in Assiut. The campaign was first launched in Fayoum and will continue until the end of March.
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar — Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population — explained that the campaign aims to improve demographic characteristics and support the health and reproductive health of the Egyptian family. It also targets expanding family health services in all governorates to follow up on women and provide services in their homes free of charge.
Abdel Ghaffar added that the campaign has been implemented in six districts in Assiut, including Assiut, Al-Ghanayem, Al-Qusiya, Abnoub, Sahel Selim, and Abu Tig, and will be circulated in all districts of the governorate in February and March.
For his part, Hossam Abbas — Head of the Population and Family Planning Sector at the Health Ministry — noted that during the campaign, beneficiaries are registered electronically at the level of health departments within the framework of implementing a health survey to enumerate women of childbearing age through the use of rural pioneers in all areas.
Abbas also stated that the campaign aims to provide family planning and reproductive health services and means, in addition to raising community awareness of the importance of these services in preserving the health of children, mothers, and the family, as well as devising non-traditional ways to attract and motivate beneficiaries to use these methods.
Furthermore, mobile clinics have been provided in residential communities, according to Duaa Mohamed Ali — Head of the Central Administration for Family Planning Services and Means — noting that all family planning methods, especially long-acting methods, are offered free of charge to beneficiaries.
