Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met with CEO of Huawei in Egypt Jim Liu on Wednesday to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two sides in the field of developing and digitising the health system.
This came within the framework of the ministry's strategy to transform hospitals into smart medical institution that rely on AI. This is expected to reflect positively on the quality and speed of services provided to citizens and is in line with Egypt's 2030 Vision.
Huawei is one of the leading companies in the field of IT.
During the meeting, the minister thanked Huawei for their keenness to develop ways of cooperating to support the health system in Egypt, praising the strength of Egyptian-Chinese relations and the continuous cooperation between the two countries in general, and the cooperation between the ministry and Huawei in particular.
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar — Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population — indicated that the meeting witnessed a discussion of proposals to support the cooperation strategy between the ministry and the company to support the health sector through the application of Huawei's AI technology in hospitals and transforming them into smart hospitals.
He added that the minister directed the organisation of a visit for the company's delegation to Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital to inspect it and develop AI technology and digital transformation strategies for it.
Huawei is also expected to digitise Shabrment Hospital in Giza as a prototype for implementing the system.
Abdel Ghaffar explained that digitising hospitals and converting them into smart hospitals ensures rapid response to patients in receiving diagnostic and treatment services, as well as ensuring the governance of procedures, speed, and accuracy of the diagnosis of diseases, which contributes to the speed of receiving treatment.
He also pointed to the importance of digital transformation in creating a unified medical file for each patient — linked to a unified system of hospitals — to ensure that the patient receives all the services necessary for them in all hospitals with the same efficiency.
