Egypt to send plane to evacuate citizens escaping Ukraine Cabinet Spokesperson Nader Saad said the EgyptAir plane will arrive at the Romanian Capital, Bucharest, to take Egyptian students back home as per the president's directives.
The Egyptian Cabinet announced on Tuesday that it will send an EgyptAir flight to evacuate Egyptian citizens who are trying to leave Ukraine. Cabinet Spokesperson Nader Saad said the EgyptAir plane will arrive at the Romanian Capital, Bucharest, to take Egyptian students back home as per the president's directives. Saad added that the Cabinet ensured the necessary coordination with Egyptian embassies in European countries neighbouring Ukraine to facilitate the return of the students. Earlier, Egyptian Minister of Expatriate Affairs Nabila Makram stated that a group of Egyptians that were based in Ukraine had already arrived in Cairo and that 1,000 others were expected to reach Bucharest. She also said that Egyptian university students living in the Western cities of Ukraine have an easier time crossing the border to Romania, Poland, and Hungary, as opposed to students staying in Eastern cities like Kharkiv. Furthermore, Makram said that her ministry has not recorded any deaths of Egyptian students but added that an Egyptian citizen married to a Ukrainian woman had been shot and is currently in a stable condition. There are around 3,000 Egyptian students in Ukraine. Since the start of the Russian offensive on Ukrainian cities, Egyptian authorities have asked Egyptian students to abide by the embassy's instructions and security rules until further notice.
