Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met with his Jordanian counterpart Bisher Al-Khasawneh on Sunday to discuss ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation and tackling regional issues of common interest.
An official reception ceremony was held for the Jordanian delegation at the headquarters of the Council of Ministers.
Cabinet Spokesperson Nader Saad stated that the Jordanian Prime Minister arrived in Cairo on an official visit.
Al-Khasawneh is heading a Jordanian delegation that includes the Jordanian ministers of transportation; energy and mineral resources; finance; social development; and industry, trade, and supply; as well as the president of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce; the chairperson of the Jordanian Chamber of Industry; and a number of other senior Jordanian officials in order to participate in the meetings of the 30th session of the Egyptian-Jordanian Joint Higher Committee.
Saad added that Madbouly and Al-Khasawneh are scheduled to chair on Monday the meetings of the 30th session of the Joint Higher Committee, in which both parties are expected to sign a number of programmes and protocols to enhance cooperation in the fields of higher education and scientific research, plant quarantining, logistical areas, and youths.
Joint Higher Committees are considered one of the most important tools for economic diplomacy and are particularly effective at establishing new bilateral cooperation between Egypt and neighbouring Arab countries.
The Joint Egyptian-Jordanian Higher Committee began its meetings in 1985. In the past four decades, the committee's meetings resulted in the signing of many agreements that have significantly affected the economic, commercial, investment, and cultural relations between the two countries, as a number of technical committees across various fields have collaborated to regulate the workflow and solve issues that may hinder efforts in strengthening cooperative relations.
