Khaled El-Enany, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, stressed the necessity of completing the project to develop the Greco-Roman Museum in Alexandria on schedule.
He said the museum will be a main attraction site for internal and external tourism in Alexandria.
This came during a meeting held by the Minister to follow up on the latest developments of the project in preparation for its opening during the coming period.
Hisham Samir, Assistant Minister for Engineering Affairs and General Supervisor of the Historic Cairo Project, said that the project to restore the Greco-Roman Museum is carried out in accordance with the cooperation protocol signed between the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, and the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces in April 2017, to develop and restore eight archaeological sites, including the Greco-Roman Museum.
He mentioned that the project began in February 2018, with 93% engineering works completed.
Ali Omar, Chairperson of the Supreme Committee for the Display Scenario of the Museums, said that the itinerary of the visit, cafeterias, library, lecture halls, and senior visitors were identified, as well as halls for scientific research and study activities, and a hall for meetings and educational activities for children.
Mahmoud Mabrouk, advisor to the minister of antiquities for museum displays, indicated that the locations of the large-sized antiques and the dimensions of their bases have been determined, as the museum will display nearly 20,000 artefacts dating back to the Greek and Roman eras, in addition to a museum garden, a centre for preservation and restoration of antiquities, and another centre for currency research.
Moamen Othman, Head of the Museums Sector at the Supreme Council of Antiquities, said that the area surrounding the museum will be developed, including squares, streets, buildings, lighting poles, and providing parking spaces for cars and tourist buses.
