Egypt's National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), the training arm of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, will launch the second edition of the African Women Leadership Program (AWLP) on Wednesday.
The programme comprises 100 African women leaders in senior management positions, with this edition launched in cooperation with the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) and Gemini Africa, an investment hub for entrepreneurial ecosystem in Egypt.
The EAPD, which is the main partner in the programme, is the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs' arm entrusted with supporting the efforts of countries across the continent in implementing Africa's Agenda 2063.
The programme will be implemented from 10 to 28 March, and will consist of 21 lectures on the topics of sustainable development, good governance, and developing managerial and leadership skills.
The selected 100 women leaders work in ministries or affiliated bodies in African countries, including: the Ministry of Agriculture; the Ministry of Health; the Ministry of Education; and the Ministry of Environment. Also involved are researchers and trainers in the relevant research and training centres.
The AWLP targets participants in the age group of 40-55. Some criteria have been set for registration and taking part in the programme. This includes a commitment to attend 90% of the training as a minimum to obtain a certificate.
It is worth noting that the first version of the programme was launched on 1 January 2020, with an invitation to 100 African women who hold high government positions from 35 African countries to attend the training camp in Cairo.
