The current project portfolio of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in the Egyptian market hits $1bn, according to a Saturday's statement from the Ministry of International Cooperation (MIC).
Over her current visit to the US, International Cooperation Minister Rania Al-Mashat discussed with the USAID Assistant Administrator for the Middle East Michael Harvey boosting the agency's portfolio in Egypt.
USAID is a strategic partner for the Egyptian government in number of the developmental projects in fields of education, health, women empowerment and agriculture, Al-Mashat said, asserting the Egyptian government keenness on coordinating the future projects with the USAID in light of the local developmental priorities.
Egypt aims at focusing on accelerating the economic growth, youth and women empowerment, supporting small farmers in addition to expanding the joint partnership in trade, investment, information and communication technology (ICT) fields.
For his part, Harvey said the USAID aims at boosting its partnership with Egypt in different fields, noting that USAID is proud of its projects in the local market due to its successes.
Additionally, USAID's programmes in Egypt amount to over $30bn since 1978, according a report entitled, "40 years of inspiring Egyptian success", released in October 2019.
"We have 13 ministries as partners and we will continue to implement developmental projects for the good of the Egyptian people," Mission Director of the USAID in Egypt Sherry Carlin said in October 2019. She noted that the USAID's programmes in education, health, economic growth, and governance are contributing to the stability and prosperity for the Egyptians, through accessible, effective, and countable institutions.
