Egypt's gas consumption will rise to 9bn scf/day by 2020/21
Natural gas production increased domestically to 6.75bn scf/day
Published in Daily News Egypt on 23 - 09 - 2018

The Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) estimated that the average domestic gas consumption will increase to about 9bn standard cubic feet per day (scf/day) by 2020/2021, due to the industrial development plan, increasing the production capacity of electricity, the delivery of gas to homes, and the increase in car conversions to gas instead of petroleum products.
A source in EGAS said in a statement to Daily News Egypt that the rate of domestic gas consumption will gradually increase to 7.5bn scf/day during the next fiscal year (FY), compared to 6.3bn during FY 2018/19.
He pointed out that Egypt's plan to produce natural gas from the fields of Zohr, North Alexandria, Nooros, and Burullus, will contribute to achieving self-sufficiency domestically, while the Idku and Damietta liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants will operate using gas imported from Cyprus and Israel.
He added that Egypt's production of natural gas rose to about 6.75bn scf/day during the current month.
Moreover, LNG shipments will be halted once self-sufficiency is reached, after Zohr's production rate reaches 2bn scf/day cubic feet per day compared to 1.75bn scf/day currently, the source explained.
The oil and gas sector has carried out a number of discoveries during the last period, which are currently successfully linked to the production, the first of which was the Nooros field, whose production rose to about 1.2m scf/day.
