Major General Mahfouz Taha, deputy chairperson of the Suez Canal Economic Zone for the Southern Area (SCZone), announced that ship movement and containers handling in Al-Adabiya Port increased compared to the previous year.
He added that the port is seeing increasing activity in ship movement, marine traffic, and trucks, next to growing size of container handling in August 2017 compared to the same month last year.
The port received 463,825 tonnes of dry bulk cargo compared to 250,016 tonnes in August 2016—a growth of 85%.
The total size of incoming and outgoing goods in August 2017 reached 778,518 tonnes, compared to 539,637 tonnes in August 2016—an increase of 44%.
The total number of containers reached 1,946 containers, including 180 20-foot containers and 1,677 40-foot containers, while the total number of ships reached 42.
Mahfouz said the economic activity begins at ports, which calls for encouraging investments in ports and developing them to attract major ships to the ports of the zone.
