State's appeal against annulment of Red Sea islands deal postponed to 19 December The court postponed the case to comment on a report submitted by the State Lawsuit Authority
The Higher Administrative Court postponed Monday's appeal session in the Red Sea islands deal to 19 December. The session was postponed in order to comment on a report submitted by the State Lawsuit Authority and to allow the state to submit court session reports requested by lawyer Khaled Ali, one of the plaintiffs who filed the lawsuit against the Red Sea islands agreement, next session. The government is appealing the State Council's decision to annul the Egyptian-Saudi maritime demarcation deal, which would have seen sovereignty of Tiran and Sanafir islands transferred to Saudi Arabia. On 21 July, the State Council cancelled the deal and a few hours later the State Lawsuits Authority appealed the decision. The controversial deal was made in April during an official visit by Saudi Arabian King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud. It has since sparked widespread discontent among both pro- and anti-government factions in the country, leading to a number of arrests.
