Average win not good enough for Ahly captain
Published in Daily News Egypt on 03 - 11 - 2008

CAIRO: Ahly skipper Shadi Mohamed said that his side s 2-0 victory over Coton Sport in the Champions League final round is unsatisfactory.
The Reds could have defeated the Cameroonian outfit by a larger margin in the first leg on Sunday, but they squandered many clear-cut opportunities.
I am not jubilant over the result, we could have ended the game in a clean sweep and got one hand on the title, the international defender said after Sunday s game.
Two early goals from Wael Gomaa and Flavio Amado gave the five-time African champions a head start, but they eased off afterwards and settled for an average win.
Although he is not satisfied with the result, the 31-year-old praised his team s performance.
Our display was all-in-all quite well, we played more like a team, he added.
The Cairo giants are eager to claim an unprecedented CAF Champions League sixth title.
Last year the prestigious trophy slipped out of the Egyptian Champions grasp when they were beaten 3-1 by Etoile Sahel in the second leg of the final round.
Meanwhile, Ahly coach Manuel Jose dished out praise for his players after their 2-0 victory over Coton Sport in the first-leg of the Champions League final on Sunday.
The Red Devils eased to a comfortable 2-0 victory over the Cameroonian champions at Cairo stadium to edge closer to their sixth Champions League title.
We produced a good performance today, although we wasted numerous chances, the Portuguese manager said at the post match press conference.
The players exerted great efforts in the game; I am really proud of them all.
The 62-year-old assured the five-time African champions were competent, but more importantly, they didn t concede any goals.
I am glad that we prevented the visitors for scoring, if so, our mission would have been way harder, he added.
