One man was shot dead in Al-Arish by unknown assailants Tuesday morning, according to state-run newspaper Al-Ahram.
The man was transferred to Al-Arish General Hospital after the incident but later died of his injuries.
An explosion on Monday. on a road between the North Sinai cities of Al-Arish and Sheikh Zuweid. left three people dead, and 13 others injured.
In a recent development, North Sinai governor Abdel Fatah Harhoor ordered that monetary compensation be given to the injured victims and the dead victim's families. The deceased would receive EGP 7,000, while the injured would receive EGP 3,000.
This comes parallel to a decision by the Ministry of Social Solidarity to provide compensation of EGP 10,000 for the families of the deceased, and EGP 5,000 for the injured.
Egyptian authorities have been battling to put down a militant insurgency in North Sinai for years. The violence spiked following former president Mohamed Morsi's ouster in July 2013, following mass protests against his turbulent one-year rule.
The National Council for Arab and Egyptian Tribes (NCAET), an alliance of tribes in the Sinai Peninsula, recently declared its cooperation with the state in its fight against terror. A total of 177 tribes agreed to cooperate in the state's war on terror, state-run news agency MENA said.
Most of the violence in the region has been claimed by Islamist militant group "State of Sinai", formerly known as "Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis".
Just hours before the assassination of Prosecutor General Hisham Barakat in Cairo, "State of Sinai" released a video Monday showing its killing of three Egyptian judges in May. The group has not claimed responsibility for Barakat's assassination.
