The Barcelona circuit hosted the second round of the Formula 1 winter tests with the participation of nine teams.
On the first day, Pastor Maldonado won the race for Lotus, with 69 laps and the best time for lap at 01:25.011, beating Ferrari driver Kimi Räikkönen, who came in second place with a 0.1 second difference and 73 laps in 01:25.167 of time. In the third place was Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo, with 58 laps and 01:25.547 of time.
On the second day, Australian Ricciardo put Red Bull in first place, recording the fastest time of 1:24.574, and the largest number of laps during the previous four days, with a total of 143 laps. Following Daniel Ricciardo, Kimi Räikkönen of Ferrari came in second place with a very small difference of 90 laps, achieving the best time at 1:24.584. Recording 1:24.672 and 88 laps, Felipe Massa, driver of Brazilian Williams team, came in third place.
Venezuelan Maldonado took first place once again on the third and penultimate day the winter tests on the Barcelona circuit, with the best time of the day at 1:24.348, and with 104 laps. The driver of Toro Rosso, Max Verstappen, completed 129 laps, ranking second with a time of 1:24.739, while third place was awarded to World Champion Lewis Hamilton, the Mercedes driver who was 1.7 seconds away from first place.
The Lotus team ended its good performance in the second winter tests in Barcelona. French driver Roman Grogan took first place on the fourth and last day, achieving 1:24.067 of time, the best time in the four days of tests, completing 111 laps. Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg drew attention, showing off the Mercedes' speed and achieving second place with 1:24.321, in addition to the 129 laps he completed. In the third place, with a 0.8 second difference, came Russian driver Daniel Kvyat with 101 laps.
The McLaren team had bad luck during the Barcelona tests. Deficiencies in the energy recovery system (ERS) appeared and prevented the British driver Jenson Button from making a lot of laps in the first day. In the last day of the tests, Fernando Alonso had an accident when his car deviated from the third turn, which made the right side of the car crash into the wall. Alonso was consequently taken to the hospital, but examinations did not indicate that he was harmed.
The Ferrari team took the first place in the first winter tests on the Spanish circuit of Jerez, after the Finnish driver Kimi Räikkönen achieved the fastest time ever in the tests at 1:20.841 and 106 laps.
As usual, the German maker, Lewis Hamilton, made the biggest number of laps on the Jerez circuit, with 116 laps.
