The Qasr Al-Nil Misdemeanour Court acquitted four detainees Wednesday, who were charged with protesting in the vicinity of Tahrir Square. The four protestors had been protesting against the Cairo Criminal Court's decision to drop all charges against former president Hosni Mubarak on 28 November. The defendants' lawyers, who work for the Egypt Center for Social and Economic Rights, said the protesters were the only four left in detention after other detainees from the protest were released, in an official statement. The detainees were facing charges of protesting and rioting. The Center added in the statement that the verdict is a fair application of justice, and pledged to continue working to defend the rights of other revolutionary protesters as they continue their struggle to freedom. Thousands of people gathered next to Tahrir Square on 28 November evening to protest against the court's decision to drop the murder charges against Mubarak for his role in the deaths of hundreds of protesters during the 25 January Revolution. Security forces eventually dispersed the demonstrations with water cannons and teargas, with many protesters arrested and two killed.
