Supreme Electoral Commission urges voters to verify data
Published in Daily News Egypt on 21 - 10 - 2014

The Supreme Electoral Commission called on all voters to verify their information on the electoral role before the upcoming parliamentary elections, to ensure that listed details are correct.
Committee spokesman Medhat Idris told state news agency MENA that voters' lists are now available at police stations and courts of first instance across the country, and on the committee's official website.
There is no specific date set yet for the upcoming parliamentary elections. An executive source told state-run Al-Ahram on Monday that elections would take place any time between later this year and next summer.
Article 230 of the constitution ratified in January, states that under any circumstances, the parliamentary elections should take place within six months of the constitutional ratification.
"I can't see a good reason for delaying the parliamentary elections, and the committee doesn't talk about it," said Egypt Social Democratic Party leader Ahmed Fawzy. "The date is important for the voters in the first place."
The next parliamentary elections will be the second of its kind, with two presidential elections, two constitutional referendums and one Shura Council elections having already taken place during the past three years.
"I don't expect a huge turnout for voters in the upcoming elections, the people have elections fatigue," Fawzy added. "The Islamic Current will boycott the elections alongside wide segments of youth movements."
The commission said those did not find their names or found incorrect information on the database should go to the nearest court of first instance to fill out a registration form or update existing information.
The committee spokesman added in his statements to MENA that this process is ongoing until the committee officially sets a date for the elections.
