Absuive orphanage manager sentenced to 3 years
Published in Daily News Egypt on 10 - 09 - 2014

Omrania Misdemeanour Court handed down a three-year imprisonment to Mecca Al-Mukarama Orphanage manager, Osama Mohamed Uthman on charges of child abuse, said case lawyer Yehia Abou Seif.
Abou Seif said the defendant, who was filmed beating a group of children mostly under 10, was given two years for intimidating the children, and another year for beating them.
The video tape was taken by the manager's wife who was in charge of the orphanage whilst her husband was not present in the country.
When he came back four years later, he took responsibility for the orphanage and prevented her further involvement in the orphanage's running, said the wife.
Giza Governor, Ali AbdelRahman, decided in August to dissolve the board of directors for Mecca Al-Mukarama Orphanage. This decision came after the reports and condemnations of the torture video went viral on both official and social media.
Egyptian state-news agency MENA, said that AbdelRahman assigned a temporary board of directors to manage the orphanage for next three months. This will be until the financial and administrative turmoil is settled.
AbdelRahman noted that as soon as the investigations are over that the children are to be moved to a more credible orphanage.
