GM Egypt investments $10 million to manufacture the Chevrolet Move in Egypt

GM Egypt celebrated the launch of the first locally assembled Chevrolet Move Mini passenger van sharing the confidence of the international companies in the recovering Egyptian economy as well as recognizing the skillfulness of the Egyptian Manpower. The New Mini passenger van is assembled by GM Egypt supported by a US$10 million investment in the plant, tools and fixtures.Diplomats, Suppliers, key leaders from Industry and the Public sector, the Media along with the employees of General Motors Egypt and SGMW, attended the celebration of this significant milestone.
GM Egypt plans to produce around 5000 vehicles annually to be sold in Egypt. The CKD kits for the Chevrolet Move will be supplied by SGMW, a joint venture between SAIC Motor Corporation Limited, Liuzhou Wuling Motors Co Limited and GM China. Additional body styles based on the Chevrolet Move platform are planned to be produced in Egyptin accordance with General Motor's Production & Quality standards to meet the needs and expectations of the Egyptian consumers.
The launch of Chevrolet Move follows the joint announcement last year by SGMW and GM Egypt, of their agreement tocommence assemble of the first SGMW vehicle outside of China and that at the GM Egypt plant. This agreement reflects the confidence of SGMW in the Egyptian Automotive market underpinned by a positive outlook of a strengthening Egyptian economy. Furthermore, this also signifies SGMW's confidence in the capability of Egyptian manpower to assemble the Chevrolet Move following GM Production and Quality standards.

It is powered by a 1.2l 16 valve DOHC electronic fuel injection engine generating 85 horse power. Coupled with a 5 speed manual transmission, this combination provides optimal fuel economy.
