ASWAN: Thousands of voters in Luxor lined up in front of polling stations to cast their votes in the first post-Mubarak parliamentary elections in Egypt. According to member of the Luxor Youth Coalition Ahmed Sayed, the competition is intense between the Democratic Alliance dominated by the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) and the three-party liberal Egyptian Bloc, headed the Free Egyptians. "Luxor is a city with a large Coptic population that is voting for the Egyptian Bloc, in addition to many Muslims who said they are also voting for the Egyptian Bloc, while others are voting for the FJP," he told Daily News Egypt. The voting process started on time and no administrative violations have been reported. Judges are inside the polling stations moderating the process, and all voting applications are stamped, observers said. "The remnants of the old regime are very rare in the party lists districts, but are more visible in the individual seats where only three or four of them are running. But I believe no one is voting for them because everybody knows who they are," Sayed added. The FJP representatives were seen distributing fliers in front of some of the polling stations and were reportedly stopped since campaigning is banned on election day.
