Military prosecution adjourns interrogation of two activists, releases third on bail
Published in Daily News Egypt on 25 - 10 - 2011

CAIRO: The military prosecution adjourned Monday the case of activists Alaa Abdel Fattah and Bahaa Saber to Sunday and released April 6 member Ali El-Halaby on LE 1,800 bail pending investigation.
Abdel Fattah and Saber were summoned earlier this week following a complaint against them claiming that they incited violence during the Maspero clashes of Oct. 9, as both of them appeared in videos during the clashes.
Eyewitnesses have said that during the military crackdown on the Coptic protest, which claimed 27 lives, Abdel Fattah was seen helping the wounded, which numbered at over 300.
Their defense lawyers requested the postponement of the interrogation until Abdel Fattah returns from US, where he is attending a conference.
"The charges against them were not discussed during the preliminary interrogation session as we focused only on adjourning the session," lawyer Ahmed Saif Al-Islam, also Abdel Fattah's father and director of the Hisham Mubarak Law Center, told Daily News Egypt.
El-Halaby was charged with vandalizing public property because of the graffiti he painted on the wall of Al-Noor Wal Amal NGO last week as a part of the April 6 campaign (The Black Circle), which exposes remnants of the old regime to discourage people from voting for them in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Tens of protesters supporting the activists gathered in front of C28, the headquarters of the Military Prosecution in Nasr City, where interrogations take place, chanting against military rule and the trial of civilians in military courts.
