Margareta van den Bosch on democratizing fashion
Published in Daily News Egypt on 21 - 10 - 2011

Daily New Egypt: You and H&M have single handedly changed ideas about high fashion design since the start of the designer collaborations for H&M. How do you feel looking back on it now?
Margareta van den Bosch: It was a combination of opportunities and timing, I guess. I feel very happy about it. I feel it has democratized the fashion world a little, which could never be a bad thing, right?
Versace isn't as mainstream as Karl Lagerfeld or Lanvin, but more of a niche brand, particularly when considering the younger target client base of H&M. What prompted you to consider Versace for a potential collaboration?
We are long time admirers of Versace's iconic design. It's strong, glamorous and sensual, classic but also very much of the time. It's actually very much in vogue right now.
What have you personally learned from a creative standpoint from the various designers since you started these collaborations?
That they are all different and work in very different manners. That's the beauty of it. There is no set way to do this and we learn from each and every collaboration — while really enjoying meeting new teams and working on different styles too. It's very rewarding, and the designers and their teams seem to feel the same.
What inspires Margaret van den Bosch on a daily basis?
People I work with, music, exhibitions, catwalk shows, magazines, TV. Everything can be inspiring if you pay attention. I guess it's important to be curious and open minded.
What are some of your favorite pieces from the upcoming Versace for H&M collection?
I like the dresses, very Versace, and the fake fur vest. I also like the bright pink suit and the Miami print shirt. And the jewelry; it's beautiful.
