Who will win and who should win
Published in Daily News Egypt on 06 - 12 - 2007

Unlike last year, the main international competition has been a major disappointment. The quality of most of the films ranged from below average to mediocre. Even the few good ones were inconsequential in terms of artistic merits and cinematic vision.
Two films stood out though: Anand Tucker's heart-breaking adaptation of Blake Morrison's best-selling British novel "And When Did You Last See Your Father? and Florent Emilio Siri's French war drama "L' ennemi intime (Intimate Enemies).
Past award ceremonies have proven that the most deserving films don t necessarily go home with the prize. Tear-jerkers and politically-themed pictures are always the strongest contenders, while original, controversial films with complex narrative structures are a hard sell. Check out Daily News Egypt's list of films we predict will scoop the major awards and those we think should win them.
