CAIRO: A gala event marking Unicef s 60th anniversary will feature the Egyptian premiere of a documentary film narrated by the veteran leading lady of Egyptian cinema, Faten Hamama. The film recounts Unicef s achievements in the six decades since its inception as a temporary relief agency in the aftermath of World War II. The agency s support for global immunization campaigns against polio and tuberculosis, its efforts during major international disasters and its support for girls education are among the film s highlights. The original English version of the documentary was narrated by British actor and Unicef goodwill ambassador, Roger Moore. Hamama agreed to provide the Arabic narration for the film which will be distributed to Unicef offices throughout the Middle East and North Africa. It will also be made available for broadcasters. Representatives of the government, civil society and the private sector will join leading child rights advocates and celebrities for the gala event on Tuesday, Dec. 19 entitled Together for a Better Future for Egypt s Children: Celebrating 60 Years of Partnership. The event, at the Manasterly Palace, El Manial, is being held in cooperation with the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood. The winners of the inaugural NCCM/UNICEF awards for print and broadcast journalism will be announced at the same event.
