CAIRO: Kefaya movement is urging civil society and activists to join opposition-affiliated members of the parliament at sit-in today at 3 pm to protest the constitutional amendments. During Sunday's parliamentary discussions of the amendments, in preparation of a nation-wide referendum on April 4, opposition MPs left the session in protest. Activists and opposition say the amendments are a step backwards on the way to reform, citing articles that would curb freedoms, limit judicial supervision of elections and make it almost impossible for any party or entity but the ruling party to run for presidential elections. Leaders of Al-Wafd party called on the Egyptian public to boycott next month s planned referendum on the amendments. The movement has already organized a demonstration last Thursday to protest the amendments. Over 30 activists were arrested. While some were released shortly after, the remaining 21 were released on Saturday.
