UAE launches Arabic website on coastal conditions
Published in Bikya Masr on 08 - 05 - 2013

DUBAI: The United Arab Emirates and the city of Dubai have launched a new Arabic version of the Coastal Zone and Waterways Management Section that will detail and monitor conditions along the coast. The goal of the new site is to offer a database for coastal engineering applications.
Alyaa Al-Harmoodi, Head of Coastal Zone and Waterways Management Section functioning under the Environment Department of the civic body, said she believed it would enable better overall management of the city and the surrounding areas.
The site aims to provide information on waves, current, surface elevation, wind, oil spill and inundation along Dubai coastline and the Arabian Gulf.
"We hope you will find it to be an informative source of Dubai coastal marine data. Registered users can access free of charge graphical plots of the last 24 hours of monitored parameters as well as selected documentation and image." Harmoodi said while discussing the new site.
She said the newly launched website hits near about 8,000 visits monthly.
The Coastal Zone and Waterways Management Section (CWMS) is part of the Environment Department which is under the Health, Safety and Environment Control Sector of the Dubai Municipality.
"The CWMS oversees the sustainable development and the utilization of Dubai coastal and marine environment through the formulation and implementation of Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) plans and procedures within the scope of responsibilities of Dubai Municipality. The section contributes significantly to the decision-making, understanding, analysis and study of coastal phenomena aimed at achieving a sustainable coastal development," said the CWMS in a statement.
