KATHMANDU: Nepal's climbing community is ablaze with joy and admiration after a Nepali woman entered the Guinness Book of World Records after climbing the world's tallest peak twice in 8 days last year. The 29-year-old trekker Chhurim was given the certificate issued by the record book organization by Nepal's Tourism Minister Posta Bahadur Bogati after she was confirmed to have climbed Mt. Everest twice last May, on the 12th and again on the 19th. She becomes the first ever woman to complete the summit twice in one calendar year. Chhurim, who like most Nepalese Sherpas use only one name, said she plans to climb other high peaks in the future. Everest has been climbed by nearly 4,000 climbers but women climbers make only a small portion of that number, according to the Nepal Mountaineering Association. BN
