KUALA LUMPUR: Three Sudanese siblings were killed when their taxi slammed into a truck in Jalan Ayer Hangat, police and local media reported on Sunday. The family had been vacationing in Malaysia. The taxi driver was also killed in Saturday's traffic accident. Local media reported the dead to be Miriam Mohamad Maisara Abdul Hameed, 26, her sister Alaa Mohamad Maisara Abdul Hamid, 16, and their brother Mohamad Mysra Abdul Hameed, 18. The sisters had been attending a private college in Kuala Lumpur and also held UK passports, while their brother held a Sudan passport. The taxi driver was identified as Zubir Ibrahim, 42, from Kampung Bohor Merah in Ayer Hangat. The accident occurred when the driver tried to overtake another vehicle when he collided head-on with the truck driven by a 44-year-old man. Langkawi fire and rescue personnel took about an hour and 30 minutes to extricate the bodies from the taxi that was lodged underneath the lorry. “The cabbie and his passenger died at the scene due to serious injuries to various parts of their bodies," Langkawi OCPD Supt Harith Kam Abdullah said. He said the Arab siblings arrived in Langkawi on June 25 and were supposed to return to Kuala Lumpur on Sunday. BM “We have yet to conduct post-mortems on the victims as we need to wait for their relatives," Supt Harith said, adding that the lorry driver had lodged a report.
