DUBAI: While it won't be a massive endeavor, Dubai is to get a theme park of superhuman nature. Spider-man, X-Men and The Avengers are part of the Marvel comic book universe who will be taking up a place in the United Arab Emirates next year. It is part of a new entertainment center to open in Dubai to push the comic book heroes ahead of continued film releases. This marks the first time Disney, which bought Marvel in 2009, has incorporated the characters in such a venture, the Los Angeles Times reported. Plans for a larger enterprise were originally announced in 2007, but put on hold because of economic woes. “The significantly scaled-down Marvel Adventure entertainment center promises to have ‘interactive entertainment experiences' featuring Marvel characters. While officials have yet to announce any attractions, the new Dubailand park will likely have smaller attractions rather than larger rides,” the newpaper said. Disney told the Times that it has only licensed the use of the characters for the project and won't involve Walt Disney Imagineering or its theme park operations. “But for theme park and comic book fans, Marvel Adventure marks the first foray into a themed entertainment setting under the nascent Disney-Marvel partnership, stoking curiosity about what Imagineering has planned for the superheroes at the company's theme parks in California, Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Shanghai,” the article said. For residents and young comic book lovers, it will be an opportunity to mix with some of the most famous characters in history.
