SANA'A: In a recent statement to the press, Alistair Burt, the UK Foreign Office Minister for the Middle East, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, expressed his views on Yemen saying that it was now time for foreign nations to truly grasp the danger posed by the country's crippling humanitarian crisis. “Sir, Collette Fearon is right to draw attention to the escalating humanitarian crisis in Yemen. For too long Yemen was a forgotten crisis in the Middle East.” Burt added that the UK had been the driving force behind Yemen becoming the center of the international community's agenda, stressing that Yemen' security issues were a matter of national security for several western nations as the threat of al-Qaeda continued to hover. “Far from showing a lack of political will, this government continues to lead the international community on this issue and both the minister for international development, Alan Duncan, and I will be attending the meeting next week. We are fully aware of the challenges ahead. Yemen continues to suffer from a lack of security and political and economic stability. With that in mind, we are going to Riyadh with our partners to help Yemen establish concrete steps towards full political transition in 2014. This is the first meeting of the group since the new president's inauguration. Only by tackling the instability caused by the ongoing security, political and economic challenges can Yemen begin to get back on its feet and feed its people effectively.” However if indeed finds were promised to the poorest nation of the Arabic Peninsula, politicians on Yemen complained that cash had to flow where it was needed.
