NAIROBI: The Rwanda Revenue Authority will launch an Electronic Sales Device (ESD) to counter fraudulent transactions and tax evasion by individuals. The device is set to be launched in June and it will cost $300 and $600. Ben Kagarama, Commissioner General commented that people are undertaking practices such as falsifying invoices so as not to pay taxes. He stated that the ESD would curb against this practice and it would help entrepreneurs keep accurate books of accounts. “With this devise, the figures you enter in your books of accounts are automatically transferred to our own database and any attempts to change the data afterwards will be noted and blocked.” According to Drocelle Mukashyaka, the director for taxpayer services, the E-tax system will enable tax payers pay up from anywhere thus saving time and costs though at one point the tax payer will actually have to go to the actual branch and pay from there. It is noted that the Electronic Sales Device is aimed at maximizing tax compliance. With that in hand, there is an upcoming electronic cargo system that will help to curb the receiving or sending of untaxed cargo in and out of the country.
