SANA'A: Amid reports this week that armed “elements” in Yemen's capital Sana'a continue to spread chaos and terror by targeting foreign officials, reports are now coming through of a bomb attack against Yemen Information Minister, Ali al-Amrani. Unidentified gunmen targeted his house by throwing a bomb at his house on Saturday, running away on a motorbike. Although the minister was home at the time of the attack he was unharmed. Police reports stated that while fleeing the scene, the attackers opened “fire randomly” on passers-by as to create wild panic and guarantee a safe gateway. It is the second attack on Al-Amrani since he was appointed as the Information Minister. Earlier, he escaped an assassination attempt before the Ministerial Council and he has facing media propaganda allegedly by the loyalists of the former regime. Moreover, earlier this week the Bulgarian ambassador to Yemen was attacked by gunmen near the Sana'a Trade Center, the capital's biggest and most populous shopping center, in an attempted kidnapping. If the ambassador and his wife escaped unscathed, the bold move against foreign diplomats prompted fear across the diplomatic communities and demands for yet more security measures. According to sources within the government, al-Qaeda militants would be responsible for all recent attacks in the Yemeni capital, with fear that more foreign interests will become targets of the group as it tries to instigate fear.
