CAIRO: Egypt will host the council of African Water Ministers on May 14-18 to be attended by the water resources and irrigation ministers of the continent. In statements on Tuesday, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Hesham Kandil, said Egypt was selected to chair the council of African water ministers for the coming two years. The decision was made in appreciation of Egypt's leading African and Arab role, he said in a statement released to Bikyamasr.com by Egypt's State Information Service. It also comes after the January 25th 2011 Revolution that has called for Egypt's return to the African continent to realize comprehensive development and provide food to the people of Africa, he said. Water management issues in Egypt are considered a matter of national security, and taken very seriously.
