LAGOS: The government-owned Gateway ICT has awarded scholarship on ICT training to 300 youths in Ogun state. This is a practical demonstration of the Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led administration's commitment to encourage computer literacy in the area. The recipients were among participants at a one-day seminar organized in Abeokuta, Ogun state. The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Information and ICT, Bunmi Adebayo said this step was taken to encourage computer literacy among the people of the state. He revealed in a statement that the gesture would soon be extended to students of public primary and secondary schools. He added that broadband or high speed internet access for networking data would also be established for the benefit of the people in the State. The statement was signed by the Information Officer of the Gateway ICT, Ademola Orunbon. Adebayo commended Governor Amosun for his support of the institution and urged youths in the state to be ICT compliant. He disclosed that the state government had already concluded arrangements to establish a multi-million naira computer assembly plant in Abeokuta which would be the first of its kind in the country. The General Manager, Gateway ICT, Irene Ayorinde admonished the beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture by pursuing the program with all diligence. Recipients of the scholarship have the opportunity of being trained and exposed to ten different computer programs, including Web Development, Autocard and Oracle.
